Renumber subtitles
Write consecutive subtitle numbers, optionally sorting cues and removing empty or exact duplicate entries.
Drop a file here. Up to 5 MiB of UTF-8 text and 20,000 cues per file. Nothing is saved after reload.
How to use it
Your file, ready for its next step.
- Open your subtitles. Choose a file, paste SRT or VTT, or try the sample. No account needed.
- Choose your changes. Adjust the options and run the tool. Read any warnings before continuing.
- Check and download. Review the output and save a new file. Your original stays unchanged.
Worked example
Renumber subtitles, in practice.
Cue numbers 4, 9 and 12 become 1, 2 and 3. Their timestamps and text stay the same unless you enable a cleanup option.
Before you download
Renumbering alone does not reorder the timeline. Sorting, empty-cue removal and deduplication are independent choices.
These tools work with existing SRT and WebVTT files. If you need captions from audio, open the video caption editor instead. Files are limited to 5 MiB and 20,000 cues per input. Results stay in this tab until you copy or download them.
Questions
A few useful answers.
Will renumbering fix timing?
No. It changes cue identifiers. Use the checker for timing issues or enable sorting when cues are out of start-time order.
Are my files private, and what are the limits?
Processing stays in this browser without an account. Each subtitle input is limited to 5 MiB of UTF-8 text and 20,000 cues. Session recording is disabled here. Closing or reloading the page clears your work.
